How far can the 10W UV-5RM Plus transmit?
With 10 Watts of power (double the standard 5W), the range is significantly improved. In open terrain with line-of-sight, you can expect ranges of 10-15km. In dense urban or wooded areas, expect 2-5km depending on obstructions.
Can I transmit on Airband frequencies?
No. The UV-5RM Plus is designed to receive (RX) AM Airband frequencies (108-136 MHz) for listening to pilots and air traffic control. It transmits on the amateur VHF/UHF bands only.
Is the Baofeng UV-5RM Plus legal in the UK?
Yes, you can legally buy and listen to this radio. However, to transmit, you require a valid UK Amateur Radio Licence or a Business Radio Licence. It is too powerful for licence-free (PMR446) use.
